University of Canterbury Men's 3x3 Team Triumphs at FISU Oceania Qualifier
The University of Canterbury (UC) men's 3x3 basketball team has emerged victorious at the FISU Oceania 3x3 Continental Qualifying Tournament, securing their spot at the FISU University World Cup 3x3 in Xiamen, China, this November.

In Brisbane, the UC team faced off against top university teams from New Zealand and Australia. Despite a challenging first day with six pool games in seven hours, the UC men finished 2nd in their pool, positioning themselves well for the knockout rounds.

On the second day, the UC men showcased their skills and determination, defeating the University of the Sunshine Coast 21-13 in the quarter-final. The semi-final against Macquarie University was a defensive battle, with UC maintaining a lead and securing a 16-14 victory.

The final was a highly anticipated match against the undefeated University of Sydney, who were defending their Oceania title. UC's consistency and teamwork shone through, with Adam Bayer hitting a crucial two-pointer and Zach Hannen, Aidan Tonge, and Noah Watson making impressive finishes. Hannen's late-game two-pointer and Watson's layup sealed the win for UC, sparking wild celebrations.

“Turning our preparation into actions and outcomes was key for us,” Tonge said after the victory. “The relief and overwhelming sense of accomplishment was second to none. We know we are the best team in Oceania and will be heading to China to continue to grow and develop as a team and university.”

With this victory, the University of Canterbury men's team has earned their place at the FISU University World Cup 3x3 in November, where they will compete against the best university teams in the world.

Stay tuned as we follow the UC men's journey to China and their preparations for the world stage.

Special thanks to UniSport Australia and FISU Oceania for their roles in organizing and managing the event and supporting the New Zealand teams.
