UTSNZ Board Confirms Key Appointments and Changes
UTSNZ is pleased to announce several key updates regarding the composition of the Board, which will continue to provide strategic leadership and support UTSNZ's mission of enhancing tertiary sport in New Zealand.
We are delighted to confirm that co-opted directors Joe Hitchcock and Jo Kelly have each agreed to serve a second term, extending their invaluable contributions to UTSNZ’s strategic initiatives and their expertise in governance and development within the sporting sector. Both directors have been instrumental in fostering partnerships and guiding critical projects, and we look forward to their continued involvement.
In addition, Sylvie Tulloch Gray will join the Board as one of the two student representatives, replacing outgoing student board member Narise Hansen. Sylvie’s term will begin in the New Year, and she brings with her a strong commitment to representing student voices, ensuring that the experiences and perspectives of tertiary athletes remain at the forefront of our efforts. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Narise Hansen for her dedication and service and look forward to Sylvie’s contributions.
Other board members continue to play essential roles in guiding UTSNZ's strategic vision. Kat Irving, Heinz Fellerhoff, and Connor Mills are midway through their terms, providing consistent leadership and insights from their varied backgrounds in sport and education. Their ongoing commitment helps UTSNZ strengthen our impact on New Zealand’s tertiary sport landscape.
We also confirm that Karl Whalen has expressed commitment and intention to seek a second term with the Board which would commence in May 2025. Karl’s dedication and deep experience have been vital assets, and we anticipate his continued contributions in the years ahead.
Finally, we announce that elected director Anne-Marie Parsons, who is nearing the end of her second term (the latter as Chair), will complete her time on the Board in May next year. Her leadership has been pivotal in shaping UTSNZ’s progress and establishing a solid foundation for future growth. We thank Anne-Marie for her exceptional commitment, guidance, and vision over the years, and we look forward to celebrating her achievements when she concludes her term in May 2025.
Prior to the 2025 AGM, UTSNZ will be calling for elected director nominations from its membership , following which time a new Board Chair will be appointed.
These Board appointments and transitions reflect UTSNZ's commitment to strong governance and leadership continuity as we continue to develop opportunities and support pathways in New Zealand tertiary sport.
