New Zealand Alpine Skiing Team Selected for 2025 FISU World University Winter Games

UTSNZ is excited to announce that Snow Sports NZ has selected a team of five talented alpine skiers to represent New Zealand at the 2025 FISU World University Winter Games in Torino, Italy. This prestigious global event will take place from 13-23 January 2025, bringing together student-athletes from over 50 countries.

The New Zealand team features:

  • Sam Woods - University of Auckland
  • Jesse Mutton - University of Auckland
  • Sam Hadley - University of Canterbury
  • Alec Jackson - Massey University
  • Toby Jackson – Massey University

The Alpine Skiing events will take place in Bardonecchia, including Super-G, Giant Slalom, Slalom, Alpine Combined, and Mixed Team Parallel on courses between 2800 and 1312 meters above sea level. Athletes will be accommodated alongside peers from across the globe, fostering a unique atmosphere of camaraderie and cultural exchange.

This marks the first time New Zealand will be represented at the FISU World University Winter Games since sole athlete Virginia Orange competed in 2017. As a proud member of FISU, UTSNZ is delighted to provide this pathway for New Zealand snow sports athletes to compete on the world stage. This opportunity highlights the importance of international university sport as a platform for athlete development and achievement.

We look forward to following the team's journey and wish them the best of luck as they prepare to represent New Zealand with distinction.
